Katie Higginson – Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

Katie has over 18 years experience of working as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. During that time, she has worked with adults, young people and children. The issues she has supported clients with have included trauma, stress, depression, bereavement, anxiety and relationship difficulties.

She has many years experience working with children in both private practice and primary schools. Katie recognises the importance of working with the child in the context of their wider lives and she will involve the significant adults who support them as appropriate.

She has completed various trauma training as well as Trauma Informed Training and has a deep knowledge and understanding of the impact of childhood trauma and how trauma exposure can impact on an individual.

Katie uses an integrative model working mainly with Person Centred and Psychodynamic Approaches. She also used a wide range of creative materials to help clients express inner emotions and feelings. These include paint, sand, pastels, images, clay and collage. She also uses aspects from dramatherapy which include puppets, masks and story.

Katie’s aim is to create a space where clients feel safe to express feelings and experiences which are difficult or painful and to help them feel heard, understood and valued.
